Change how you view life, and it’s struggles

If you ask any person whether they’re an optimist or a pessimist, they’ll immediately understand what you’re asking. At its core, you ask them to simplify whether they view life through the lens of looking for the good in life, or looking at life like it’s out to get them. To me, though, life doesn’t have to be like that, and I frequently answer that I view life through the lens of a neutral observer. I try and look for the good in a situation, but I acknowledge some situations suck.

I believe that this has helped to influence my perspective on approaching struggles in life. I try my best to acknowledge the learning experiences life gives me, and it is this shift in my view that helps me recognize failure as a positive. It’s also this shift in my perspective that allows me to be objective and not let my emotions to overtake me when I have a customer shouting at me that this thing going wrong is all my fault (most the time, it’s not).

But what other perspective shifts do I look for? I try and remind myself that worrying in cyclical ways, and on aspects I can’t control is not fruitful. If I can’t turn myself out of the ‘well this is bad today, but if this happens that will also be bad’ mindset, I’ll give myself 10 minutes at a set time. These 10 minutes, I’ll give myself to worrying, but I’ll also…
